Shadow and Reflection
For reflection and shadow, I took pictures using reflective surfaces and and interesting lighting to create shadow effects. Most of the photos were taken in my house except for the top left picture which was taken when I was in Philadelphia one weekend. That's also my favorite photo as it combines reflection and shadow. This picture was taken at night in the hotel room. I had been trying to take a picture of the clock tower in the background, until someone turned on the light behind me and suddenly the room was reflected in the window with the busy street outside still visible. Since the light was right behind me, my silhouette also became part of that reflection. I thought the square shape of the reflection of the room created visual interest with the square shape of the photo itself, like a square within a square. The darkness of my silhouette and the dark buildings outside create negative space and contrast with light in the room, the cars, and the other buildings outside. My silhouette also adds a mysterious element to the photo, since you can't see my face or really know that it's me.
